2009  Limited addition Wagon
2008’s limited edition wagon was a Powell-Duffryn wagon No. 1853 which was made for us as usual by Dapol Ltd. The Powell-Duffryn Steam Coal Company was formed in 1864 after the death of Thomas Powell. Powell had sunk his first pit in Cwmbach near Aberdare in 1840 and at the time of his death owned 16 coal mines mostly in the Cynon Valley. The company bought out many other pits and at the turn of the century became one of the largest exporters of steam coal primarily for use by railways across the globe.
The wagon depicted was built by the Gloucester Carriage and Wagon Company in 1910 and spent its time travelling on the Taff Vale Railway between Middle Duffryn near Aberaman and Cardiff docks. The wagon can be obtained for the show price of £8.50 plus £2.00 P&P.
